Between: A Trip to Fort

Ista Weyr - Corral
A large expanse of more than a hundred acres, the fenced-in Corral sits on the plateau, half in the bowl, half out of it. There are entrance gates in the fencing. Half in the Corral, there is a watering pond for the animals that's fed by pipes from a set of underground tunnels. For an overflow, and to keep the water from stagnating, a little stream has been cut at the western end of the pond, that flows across the plateau, and down to the beach below. The nutrient-rich grasses are kept trimed fairly short by the grazing of the animals, and look like a rich, verdant carpet.

Pi doesn't actually seem to be doing any work, and that's what she normally can be found doing anywhere near the animals. Instead the woman's just leaning against the ovine corral with her arms crossed and resting on the top rail. Her eyes are scanning the wooly beasties with a careful look but at least she's not in there wrestling one for some reason or another.

Zorya makes her away across the plateau towards the corral. Maybe its just enough of a reminder of home that the Shipton's are there? Or not, but still the teenager is headed in that direction and catching sight of the cousin she lifts a hand in greeting. "Pi!" she calls, quickening her steps to meet up with the woman at the fence.

Pi turns at that barely familiar voice, it's likely more the accent than anything else. But there's a definite grin on her face once it's pointed towards the girl. "Hey, how're ya settlin in?" It's an important question after all, and one has to look out for their little cousins.

Zorya sends a bright smile back towards the woman as she takes up a place along the fence line next to her. "Alright." she replies, "I've met alot of people already. And even a few of the dragons." Of which she's rather proud of herself even though she's still a little scared of getting to close to one especially on her own. But then Pi can certainly understand what she's going through there.

Pi returns to leaning on the fence, simply going at it from the side instead as her hip connects and then one arm over the top. "Yeah, tha' was the weirdest thing when Ah got here Ah think, since we never saw 'em at home. Ah mean, nobody wanted 'em there scarin' the ovines and well, nobody like 'em."

Zorya nods. "Yeah, we saw 'em sometimes but never up close or anything. One'd fly over or stop with a message but never anywhere or anythin." she agrees, leaning against the fence herself and sending a glance out over the ovines within the pen. The look lasts a moment in silence before the girl speaks up again still looking at the fuzzy creatures, "Uncle L'ton," see she's finally got the name down, mostly, "said I could talk to you if I needed anything…"

Oh that last line, the fatal line for that matter gets an eye roll. "Cause he's too chicken ta do it 'imself? Whatcha need?" At least there's a little fondness in that bit, and the last two words are delivered in a much softer tone. "Ah'd be happy ta talk ta ya."

Of course the bronze rider said that more in the issue of 'girl stuff' than other things, but that doesn't mean that Zorya isn't going to go to the cousin for others too. The girl does giggle at the mention of her uncle being a chicken however. "Well I… I was wondrin if ya could take me somewhere…" the teenager asks uncertain of herself.

Pi is sure exactly what Pal meant, after all he's already asked her to cover that stuff with the girls. And yes, he added Zorya into that as soon as she arrived that first night. Of course Pi is still of the mindset that the bronzer should be able to talk to his own daughter, but ah well. The giggle gets a bit more a grin admittedly and then her head tilts slightly. "Where were you thinking?"

"Fort?" Zorya half questions her own answer as she gives it. Sliding a foot nervously over the grass that lies along the edge of the fence she goes on, "That's where the Harper Hall is right? I saw it on one of the maps in the Records Room here and I mean I think that's where it is…" the blonde bites her lip, looking to the woman for her answer.

Pi actually laughs at that question and grins. "Sure, Ah don' mind an excuse ta go there. And Ah got a bit of time…" In fact she seems quite happy for the excuse. Anyhow, she gets her attention back to the girl after a moment. "Ya thinkin' of joinin' 'em?"

Zorya blinks as she's laughed at. That was not at all the response she was hoping for! But then its realized that it wasn't at her and he girl nods. "Well… Ah don't know." Harpers being a close second behind riders on the Shipton list she's still working on convincing herself she could really do it. "Ah mean I wan'ed ta… An'… well Ah figured Ah'd come this far," Meaning she made it out of hick-ville in once piece. "An' Ah might as well give it a try. Worst happens they won't have meh and we don't tell anyone."

Pi gives another nod with a rather conspiratorial grin. "Allrigh', an' when ya get accepted Ah'll make ya tell everyone. Sounds like a plan ta meh." Everyone being the shiptons here, which are the ones that matter mind you. "When were ya thinkin' of goin' then?"

Zorya seems fairly certain that she won't. "We dun haveta tell 'em right away…" she replies. "Ah mean -if- Ah do Ah wanna make sure for we go spreadin it round." she explains, her blue-eyed gaze traveling from the ovines back to her elder cousin. "Wheneva ya'v got time Ah guess…"

Pi tilts her head to one side and watches the other for a moment. "Ya know, Pal an' the others won' hold onta the whole Harpers are useless thing…" Back at Shipton why would you /need/ them, teach your own kids and you give them the 'proper' knowledge. Right? "Ah think Pal'd be proud of yer tryin'. But Ah won' say anythin' till he wonders where ya are."

Zorya nods. "Ah know, Ah jus wanna make shore firs'." she replies, clearly still nervous about the whole thing. "Ah mean its so far away an everythin…" Before running away to Ista she'd never left the hills that surround Shipton. Ista was far enough and Fort is even further. "An even -if- they take meh aint no tellin ifin they keep meh."

Pi offers a hand to the other and grins. "Well, Ah promise Ah won' tell. Now Psy can' meet us up here, but if'n ya wanna go down ta the beach she'll meet us there, sound ta ya?"

Zorya takes the hand, returning a bit of a smile. "Al'ight." she agrees nodding. Of course she'll needs something to wear for the trip between , but then that's not something that she's thought of. And why should she? She's barely been on a dragon in side the weyr, much less having made the jump.

Pi takes a moment to realize that whole between things and then blinks. "Oh, gotta get ya in somethin' better than' that. Ah got some spare in meh weyr, mind headin' up there first?" Admittedly they might be a bit big but functionable. "Still gotta go down ta the beach fer that."

Zorya shakes her head. "'At's fine." she agrees, "But ya might haveta help meh, still getten useta 'em." Them being dragons and the riding part of them (including up and down), a bit confused herself by what the other means though. "Somethin better though? Ah mean…" She's new at this whole thing!

Pi grins brightly at the mention of getting used to it. "Oh, ya will. Least Psy is easier ta get onta then Dhon, righ'?" She has a point, her own dragon is only a green. Much more managable of a size. "An' ya'd freeze Between with only those clothes, gettin' ya some leathers ta wear first."

Zorya ohs and nods. "That should help some. Her bein smaller and all." See! Learning, she knows what colors are male and female, they aren't all 'it' anymore. "What's it like? Between Ah mean…" she asks, pushing off the fence to head towards the beach with the green rider.

Pi moves off with the other shrugging her shoulder slightly. "What ya'd expect. Cold, and at the same time ya don' feel much. But Ya'll be strapped in safely, an' Ah'll be holdin' onta ya. So yeh'll be safe." she must get that assurance out of the way now, otherwise she might forget and scar the girl for life.

Zorya nods slowly as she listens. "Okay.." She'll trust her cousin. Now K'ael on the other hand… he might have already. Silly boy and his bronze showing off on her -first- time on a dragon. "Ya shore its safe though? … ah course it is ya do it all the time." there's a short pause between her question and her self assurance.

Ista Weyr - Main Beach
The famous black sands of Ista spread out about the great cove upon which the weyr has been built, gleaming under the rays of both sun and moon, like diamonds in their own pristine beauty. Caught between the brilliance of the deep, verdant greens of the forest, and the crystalline blues of the shallows, gradually deepening their colour deeper into the great ocean, the beach is no less striking, truly beautiful in its own way.
The hot, heavy rays of the sun reach deep into these sands, forever blazing underfoot, although the water remains cool and refreshing even upon the hottest of days, never quite reaching the point of being tepid. Off to one side, coming from the plateau, a small, thin waterfall, empties into a catching pool that runs off into the water through dark sand and pebbles.

Pi is indeed waiting at the beach when the pair arrive, in all her bright glory. Hopefully poor Zorya won't assume she's proddy, that'd make things even more difficult for the girl. "It's safe, Ah check meh straps every day, an' before Ah fly. They're good, an' Psy knows exactly where she's goin', we travel lots after all." And to Fort quite often, maybe a little too often? Nah.

Zorya knows very little of this thing called proddy and it's … symptoms. And so there's no assuming it, at least not today. "Ah trust ya Pi." the girl says, offering a smile even if there is a hint as to her uncertainty hidden within. "Ifin Ah didn't Ah wouldn'ta asked ya." Doesn't mean she's not still nervous, but she could have asked anyone and she asked Pi.

Who wasn't nervous their first time going Between? Many people come out screaming after all. It's not a fun experience, but at least it's one you get used to. "Allrigh', up ya go. Ah can give ya a boost if'n ya need it." She's just offering, not stepping forward to help yet as Psy settles down into the sand to make things easier, offering a foreleg.

Zorya shakes her head. "Ah.. Ah think Ah can manage." the girl replies, hesitating just a bit before she moves any closer to the brightly colored green. How'd this go again now? At least it's not Azaeth or Inemeth. Those she'd still need help with, but the green. She'll give it a go. Worst that happens, she looks silly and/or falls on her behind in the sand. Hand here? No, here. And foot… Well it's an awkward accent to the Psy's back, but she managed.

Pi quickly climbs up after, admittedly with less awkwardness but then again she's had plenty of practice unlike the younger girl. "Strap yerself in then." And yes, Pi took the seat behind the other so she can make sure that is done properly, making any neccissary adjustments for size and well, if the girl does it wrong for that matter. After the straps are all set she wraps her arms around Zorya's waist and offers a "Allrigh', we're goin' up." as a warning before Psy takes off into the air in one fluid motion, at least it won't be a bumpy ride. Not to mention the green does behave, no acrobats or anything fun like that. Simply up to the weyr with a bumpless land. One Zorya is fitted with spare leathers that are a little too large they both mount back up and take off once more. "Okay, ya read fer Between? Ah'll tell ya before we go, don' worry. But ya ain't gonna feel anythin' including meh or Psy, allrigh'? But we'll both be there an' Ah'll be holdin on, ye've got the straps, and Psy underneath ya. Ya won't see either, it'll jus' be black, with no sound. But then it's over an yer back in the sky. Allrigh'?" No panicing on her.

Zorya swallows… hard, and nods. Well at least she got warning from Pi. "Ah think so…" Ready as she'll ever be at any rate. Is she… yes, she's shaking just a bit. She nods once more, "Yeah."

Pi wraps her arms a little tighter before giving a "Here we go." as warning and pop!

Psylenith suddenly disappears -=* BETWEEN *=-

Darkness and cold like you can't imagine. Nothing to see, feel or hear, except the beating of your heart.

Then, as suddenly as you entered the emptiness…

Fort Weyr - Center Sky
The central skies of Fort are usually high traffic areas as dragons are taking off and landing, or ferrying passengers to and fro. The cliff walls stretch up, dotted with the 'weyrs' of the dragon pairs that make their homes here.

Psylenith suddenly reappears from -=* BETWEEN *=-

Zorya isn't screaming at least? No, she for one has her eyes squeezed shut and is holding her breath. … Still. Scared or just cold from the nothingness of between its hard to say at the moment, but either way she's trembling.

Pi is likely impressed by the lack of scream, that's probably something she's heard enough when she has to take people places. "Ya can breath now, we're here." Admittedly here is very high up. Still chilly, but at least you can hear the wind racing around and see the sky.

Zorya wasn't breathing, and perhaps that's the only reason there was no screaming. Hearing her cousin's voice behind her the teenager finally releases the breath she'd been holding since Pi warned her of the jump. Her eyes however are a little slower in opening to peer out over Fort. "How.. do ya… do that.. allthe time?" she asks slowly between breaths.

Psylenith slowly circles down to the ground, seeming to enjoy herself while she's at it. A few air currently are caught with her wings but the result can only be loosely called turbulence. "Ah've gotten used ta it. Feel a lil' cold after but tha's easily fixed… better when yer goin' back home. Least it's nice an' warm there." Home being Ista weyr of course.

Zorya nods, still clinging to Pi's arms around her waist. One they're on the ground it'll be better. Yes?
