They promoted you for a reason

Ista Weyr - Corral
A large expanse of more than a hundred acres, the fenced-in Corral sits on the plateau, half in the bowl, half out of it. There are entrance gates in the fencing. Half in the Corral, there is a watering pond for the animals that's fed by pipes from a set of underground tunnels. For an overflow, and to keep the water from stagnating, a little stream has been cut at the western end of the pond, that flows across the plateau, and down to the beach below. The nutrient-rich grasses are kept trimed fairly short by the grazing of the animals, and look like a rich, verdant carpet.

The grassy area surrounding the weyr's corral leaves a relatively flat surface with little traffic of people and dragons compared to the rest of the weyr. The continuing warmth of Ista's autumn days leaving this afternoon as another beautiful day to be out of doors. Given weather and place its this that Zorya has found to practice, not an unusual sight by any means.

And it's here too, on a nice day, that D'son has come for a little break. Inimeth's curled up on the grass well back from the edge of the fence so as not to spook the beasts within, but within the circle formed by his forearms, his rider sits curled with a book, quietly reading aloud to the bronze. He looks up now and then, watching Zorya, until he's reached the end of the volume and flips it closed. Inimeth cranes his neck in the harper apprentice's direction and lets out a quiet warble.

Zorya did indeed see Inimeth there. Its hard to miss a bronze dragon after all. But then he's just far enough from her location that noticing the rider with him is more difficult and his voice is lost. Its the bronze's warble that pulls her attention towards him for more than a cursory glance. Her balance wobbles as the sound hits her ears, catching her off guard, but she manages not to fall and rather lifts a hand to send D'son a wave as she finally catches sight of his form.

When Zorya wobbles, D'son starts up and moves forward a step, hand held out. She recovers though and the bronzerider smiles, lifts a hand to wave in return. "Hey Zorya. Looking good there," he compliments as he draws nearer, book tucked under his arm.

"Thanks.." Zorya replies, a subtle blush coloring her cheeks though whether its just because he saw her or from the compliment is unclear. "Been practicing and all.." so it should be looking good. "Been keeping yourself busy?"

"Yeah, how's everything coming along with the apprenticeship and everything?" Dels asks next, shifting the book under his arm a little, while Inimeth pushes up to his feet and stretches out, then trots over, bending his head towards the girl. "Yeah, duties and trying to spend as much time with Aisling as possible. And uh … well, it's recent but I uh — well I got promoted." D'son runs a hand through his hair sheepishly.

Zorya nods, "Its going well enough," she assures, "Actually.. I was thinking about maybe getting into performing some.." Though of that she sounds still somewhat unsure. Another nod for his reply before the last remark is made. "Oh!? Really? I hadn't heard yet. I suppose congratulations are in order then. .. What.. did you get promoted to?" her excitement for him falling momentarily.

"Yeah? Performing more dance, or the other harper stuff?" D'son asks curiously and flushes a little. "Um. Wingleader, actually," he ducks his head, scuffs a booted toe at the ground. "Kind of um — hit my by surprise. But yeah. Wingleader." He looks up at his friend, looking a little uncertain.

“Dance," Zorya replies with a smile, "Just more of the.. well any performing would be more really." But that's that and her smile brightens at his mention of his new position. "I'd say that certainly does call for congratulation. Celebration even, but I'm sure K'ael has already caught you up for that by now."

"Right, right. So on stage and everything. Nice," D'son remarks and lifts his shoulders a little. "Went for a drink with Aisling the other evening. I guess I'm still kind of um — stunned. And trying to catch up." He pulls the book out from under his arm and waves it a little. Seems to be all about Search and Rescue techniques.

Zorya nods. "Maybe…" she agrees. "But we'll see how that goes when I get there." While she's thought about it and mentioned it, whether she actually manages to go through with it has yet to be seen. "I'm sure there's plenty of work being wing leader. Being in charge of everything and all… I mean Uncle L'ton is busy all the time with things it seems."

"Yeah, it's a little … overwhelming. I'm still not quite sure why they promoted /me/ but …" D'son shrugs lightly. "I've got to do the best at it I can." He takes a breath, lets it out. "How're things with your family anyway?"

Zorya offers up a smile to the young man, "Well they promoted you for a reason. I doubt they would have if they didn't think you could handle the job. I'm sure you'll do wonderfully. Just takes some time to adjust to new things sometimes." she continues, and really if anyone should know about adjusting its her. "Well enough I suppose," she replies to the question with a nod, "Like I said, L'ton's pretty busy, don't see him so much. Zipalla's doing good as far as I know."

D'son eyes Zorya for a second. "This is /K'ael/ we're talking about. I mean y'know, he's a friend and all but um … " he waves vaguely, coughs. "I don't know." He nods though about adjusting. "Yeah. Just have to work at it." Dels nods, tucks his hands into his pockets, book back under his arm. "So, kind of seems like everyone's busy all around, huh?"

Zorya giggles. "I know, but still… I mean I know Uncle L'ton thinks highly of you. And even if it is K'ael, he must be halfway good at it if he's still Weyrleader." Certainly if he was terrible something would have happened by now. Another nod follows however, "Yeah, busy seems to be the theme lately."

"Uh well, you know, Merkabath would have to rise again to make a new Weyrleader," D'son answers with a little flicker of brows. "Kind of luck of the draw that, in the end. And um … he does?" Dels grins a little. "Huh. Didn't know."

Zorya nods, "Well still… Things seem to be working here just fine yet with him in charge." A shoulder lifts in a half shrug at the last and she pulls a smile to her lips once again, "Well I don't remember if he said it in that many words ever, but well… yeah. He does." From what she's been able to infer at any rate.

"Yeah, the place isn't falling apart or anything," D'son's shoulders lift again. He seems to be a very shruggy state today. "Huh. Well, I'll um … try to do that justice, for sure," the bronzerider says and actually stands a little bit straighter.

"I'm sure you will." Zorya offers her own reassurance in the matter. "From what I've seen and heard once you put your mind to it you find a way to be really good at it." she adds with a smile. "But I should probably get going.. It was nice to catch up with you again though. Maybe I could get you a drink or something sometime. As congratulations I mean…"

D'son's mouth opens, closes and he blushes. "Thanks, Zorya," he says sincerely and nods. "Oh yeah, sure, sorry. Didn't mean to hold you up. And um, yeah I should probably go return this and see about a few things and … yeah, definitely. My next rest day's in two days."

Zorya giggles, "Don't worry so much. I'm sure you'll do fine." she assures with a smile, resting a hand on the boy's shoulder for a moment. "Not keeping me, just things to do, and like you said, you've got things too." A nod, "Two days. Right. I'll keep that in mind and see you then." she agrees, "Later then." she settles, turning to head off towards the caverns.

"Not worried, just um, not used to the compliment. Like that," Dels explains but smiles and reaches up to give her hand a little pat. "Yeah, see you around Zorya. Have a nice afternoon." D'son lingers for a moment, watching her go, then retreats back to Inimeth to climb aboard and head off.
